Records, 1807-1817. Much of the material deals with the building of the hall on the corner of Nassau and Frankfort Streets, which was the Society's headquarters from 1812 to 1868. A volume of minutes, 1807-1817, begins with discussion of raising money "for the purchase of grounds, and building a Wigwam," and continues with discussion of different sites, detailed specifications for the building, and financial matters. A long report in this volume dated 1817 attributes the Society's financial problems to its failure to collect dues from members. A printed form for notification of acceptance as a member of the Society is laid in; it is blank, but was used for notes on a meeting about the design of a badge. There is also a book of accounts and receipts, kept by the treasurer, Stephen Allen, and his notebook listing subscribers for shares in stock to raise funds for the building. Most of the receipts are signed by the builder, George B. Thorp. A volume of bylaws of the Society, dated 1812-1813, deals with such issues as the duties of the Society's officers and descriptions of their badges, the procedure for electing new members, their initiation ritual, and celebrations for the Society's anniversary and the 4th of July. A cumulative list of members, dated 1817, notes those who had died, been expelled, or served as Grand Sachem, and distinguishes the original members of 1789; this volume also contains a revised constitution dated 1817.
